Summer 2009 AMWA-MAC Casual Networking Dinner

By Amy S. Neal, D.V.M.

A casual networking dinner was held on Thursday evening, July 23, 2009, at the home of Elaine Richman, AMWA Mid-Atlantic Baltimore Regional Coordinator. Elaine is a long time member of AMWA and founder and president of Richman Associates, LLC, a bioscience communications firm. Attendees enjoyed a small smorgasbord of international foods and homemade desserts. Because the group was made up of writers working in a variety of specialty areas, the introductions led to a lively discussion of a wide range of issues, from the differing perceptions of the meaning of the terms medical, science, and technical writing, to an explanation of how online classes are conducted. In fact, introductions and then interactions during the sharing of career experiences dominated the discussion. Potential topics for future meetings were also discussed. They include a visit to a writing class that brings in online participants, a presentation about the latest library resource issues, and a discussion of interview techniques. For more information, contact Elaine Richman.
