US Pharmacopeia Hosts Networking Luncheon
On 13 February 2009 approximately 20 AMWA-MAC members met at the US Pharmacopeia (USP) headquarters in Rockville, MD, for a networking luncheon and presentation.
AMWA-MAC members who have visited the old FDA headquarters have seen USP’s campus at the corner of Fishers Lane and Twinbrook Parkway. Recent visitors may have noticed extensive construction, including a new meetings area and a 4-story laboratory complex.
Attendees enjoyed a traditional networking luncheon that was followed by a 45-minute presentation about USP’s standards-setting activities. Todd L. Cecil, PhD, vice president of compendial affairs at USP made the presentation and answered questions. Many are unaware of USP’s processes and roles in providing reference standards for determining the identity, strength, and purity of drug substances and products, excipients, nutritional supplements, and food ingredients, so the presentation was informative and useful.
Depending on feedback and needs, USP looks forward to hosting another networking luncheon.
