Mid-Atlantic Regional Groups — Northern Virginia
Northern Virginia’s September 2011 Get-together
Three Northern VA (NoVA) members of the Mid-Atlantic AMWA chapter braved a rainy night to meet at Uncle Julios in Woodbridge, VA. Jun Yan, Peter Taylor and Cherie Dewar shared their medical writing experiences and career aspirations while eating delicious Mexican food. The evening was enjoyable and enlightening!
Due to a move to Maryland, Cherie Dewar has stepped down as NoVA Coordinator and will move into the Membership Coordinator position for the chapter. Anyone interested in taking on the NoVA coordinator position can contact Cherie at cherie.writer@gmail.com. The position requires planning two annual social gatherings for the NoVA vicinity, and monthly conference calls with other Chapter leadership.
NoVA January 2011 Event
January’s Northern Virginia (NoVA) AMWA gathering took place at the modern and comfortable Courtyard Marriott in historic Fredericksburg. The three members who attended learned about each other’s medical writing paths and interests. Peter Taylor, an accomplished medical writer and track and field announcer, gave Mala Erickson and Cherie Dewar ideas regarding new business prospects. Cherie and Mala filled Peter in on their backgrounds, including one good joke that Mala rode her dog -pulled sleigh to school while growing up in Saskatchewan, Canada.
These enjoyable interactions in a pleasant atmosphere enrich one’s medical writing experience, and we hope to expand the group to enhance the knowledge. Another event will be planned in fall 2011, likely in beautiful historic Fredericksburg, a convenient mid-point for our AMWA members residing near Arlington, Richmond, and Charlottesville, VA.
