2011 Annual Mid-Atlantic Chapter Conference — Report
On Friday, 20 May 2011, more than 20 participants gathered with 4 presenters and chapter leaders at the Hilton Garden Inn hotel in Bethesda for the chapter’s annual conference.
After registration and a continental breakfast, participants attended either Charmaine Cummings’s workshop in Essential Ethics for Medical Communicators (for a review of this course click here) or Bart Harvey’s advanced workshop on Understanding Sample Size and Study Power.
During the luncheon participants had an opportunity to network and were treated to a presentation by NIH researcher Sam Mbulaiteye, who discussed some of his work on HIV–AIDS in Eastern Africa.
During the afternoon workshops participants attended either Tom Gegeny’s workshop on The Internet: How and Where to Find the Information You Seek or Bart Harvey’s workshop on Making Effective Slides.
Overall, chapter officers feel that this was one of the more successful events the chapter has hosted in recent years, and we thank all who joined us, including several participants from other chapters.
Hearty thanks to all participants and the dedicated chapter officers who made this event such a success!
Save the Date!
The 2012 chapter conference will take place on Friday, 23 March 2012, again at the Hilton Garden Inn in Bethesda. We feel that we received good value for money from the hotel, and many participants expressed their satisfaction with the venue and the service we received. Thus we plan to reconvene the chapter conference there.
Please note, the AMWA-MAC Regional Conference is planned by local Mid-Atlantic chapter members and is separate from the National AMWA Conference. Again we are asking our membership to identify topics of greatest interest and perhaps to explore additional presentations we can offer to participants. Our last survey drew a great response that helped us plan the May, 2011 AMWA-MAC Regional Conference, and we’d like to gather more opinions for the 2012 conference. Please take this brief survey. It will help us offer the most useful conference, workshops, and related events for chapter members.
