AMWA Mid-Atlantic Chapter's Bethesda-DC-Silver Spring regional group invites you to a gala two-part networking event! “Visible Proofs: Forensic Views of the Body” A special curator-led tour of a fascinating exhibition at the National Library of Medicine on the NIH campus, followed by Dinner at Athenian Plaka Greek restaurant in Bethesda; appetizers & dessert courtesy of AMWA-MAC! Tuesday, November 28, 2006 6-7 PM - NLM tour 7:30-9 PM - dinner and networking Part 1: The NLM Exhibit Autopsies, coroners’ reports, DNA profiling, genetic fingerprinting, “CSI”...Forensics provides a fascinating and unique view of the human body. Forensic medicine is “the field of medicine that interprets or establishes the facts pertaining to the unexplained or suspicious death of a human being or the suffering of grievous bodily harm, in civil or criminal law cases.” This exhibition is a history of the real-world version of how crimes are solved through medical science. (Not *too* gory and REALLY educational and fun!) For more particulars, take a look at the exhibition website here. We will be given a special guided tour by the curator of this exhibit, Dr. Michael Sappol, historian in the History of Medicine division of the National Library of Medicine. Part 2 - Dinner Athenian Plaka Greek restaurant 7833 Woodmont Ave. Bethesda 301-986-1337 Parking is FREE on the upper deck of the Columbia Bank parking lot at the corner of Woodmont & St. Elmo (right next to the restaurant!); if you come to NLM by Metro we'll give you a ride to the restaurant and back to the Metro. AMWA-MAC will provide appetizers and maybe some baklava for dessert if enough people want it, and you choose onsite from among the following entrees (and you pay for your own entree and drinks - please bring cash or check as it'll be all one bill) + 20% tip and 5% tax: Mousaka ($17; layers of eggplant, zucchini, potatoes, and ground beef topped with bechamel sauce) Chicken kebob ($18; chunks of chicken breast lightly marinated, served with rice pilaf & vegetables) Vegetarian pastichio ($16; layers of Greek pasta, seasoned vegetables, and herbs topped with bechamel sauce) RSVP by Sunday, Nov. 26 Email Donna R. Parking will be FREE and adjacent to NLM, and security will be easy to navigate whether you arrive by Metro (Medical Center on the Red Line) or by personal vehicle.
