The American Medical Writers Association (AMWA),
founded in 1940, is a nonprofit organization offering educational
programs, networking opportunities, and publications to enhance
the expertise of biomedical communications professionals. There
are 20
regional chapters covering the US and Canada. The Mid-Atlantic
Chapter serves more than 300 members in the vicinity of Maryland,
Virginia, and Washington, DC. Membership in the Chapter is automatic
for those within this region.
The Chapter sponsors two chapter-wide activities
each year in the Baltimore-Washington area and an annual Core
Curriculum conference. Our regional meeting coordinators are
continually working to initiate informal gatherings
for members in other areas, including our Southeast Virginia satellite,
which holds occasional meetings for members in the Tidewater area.
We encourage you to get
involved in Chapter activities, from planning events to writing
for the Web site. Please explore this site to find out more about
MAC, and feel free to get
in touch with any member of the Board if you have questions.
Here's a great way to get involved in our chapter and meet other medical
writers. Please come to our on Saturday, June 21!
