AMWA Mid-Atlantic Chapter Scholarship Program
To encourage undergraduates who are exploring careers in biomedical communications, AMWA’s Mid-Atlantic Chapter has established a student scholarship program. Each year, the program awards a $500 scholarship to the top candidate and a 1-year AMWA membership to the closest runner-up.
The award is open to undergraduates in their sophomore or junior years who are enrolled in a college or university in Maryland, Washington, DC, or Virginia. The student must be majoring in journalism, technical/scientific writing, or the health sciences. Additional qualifications include
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Demonstrated participation in activities that show versatility and commitment, either within the family or in the greater community
To apply for the scholarship, students must submit
- A completed application form
- A 500-word essay about career plans or goals in medical or technical writing
- Two letters of recommendation
- A current official transcript
Faculty members and students who would like to find out more about the program should e-mail the Scholarship Committee Chair and ask to be notified of the next application cycle.
